ATLANTIC FOREST PROJECT
A visual artist for 43 years and living in Aldeia for over 20 years, a region that is home to one of the largest fragments of the Atlantic Forest in Pernambuco, Brazil, Mazé Andrade exposes her perceptions, experiences and enchantments of the Brazilian biome. Exploring the natural riches of Aldeia, he created a series of paintings, collages and prints for the project “Mata Atlântica – An Artistic Capture”, which received encouragement from the Aldir Blanc de Pernambuco Law.
Eight works were carried out between January and April 2022, with preparations starting in December 2021. All measuring 29.7 cm x 42 cm, using various techniques such as collage, printing and painting with acrylic paint, Indian ink and oil paint. In all his works, Mazé mixed his worldview, his affective memories and the beauties found in the Forest, one of the greatest natural heritage of our country. “Despite the great devastation we suffered, my intention was to highlight the existing beauties, awakening, in this way, love and care for nature”, explains Mazé.
